The Water
There is no life without water. No one can dispute that fact. Plants, animals, insects and such may differ in appearance and function, but water is the common bond that ties us all together.
You did not arrive here by accident. Put your mind around this: God wants to speak to you at this very moment. Right now. Are you listening?
He has given us water, for physical life as well as spiritual. He already knows our struggles and the war that rages inside each man and woman from start to finish. He allows us to see the power and necessity of water in the physical, so that we may open our hearts to its spiritual truths. The truths are few and simple, yet great and complex.
1. Water is essential
2. Water is powerful
3. Water is cleansing
4. Water is refreshing
5. Water is unique
6. Water is eternal
7. Water is transparent
I do not seek to expound on or debate spiritual matters here. This is simply what I have on my heart to share with you and I have prayed that God will take my feeble mind and thoughts and give them eternal meaning. and impact.
H2O = ESSENTIAL
No water? No life! More than two-thirds of the earth is composed of water. That water has specific boundaries and does not breach its confines under normal circumstances is quite wondrous. Have you ever stood at the lip of an ocean watching the waves come in? What stops those waves from overtaking the land? God. If you want to get technical and talk about lunar cycles and gravitational pull, be my guest, but please consider who even put all of it in motion - the Master Scientist!
Humans mimic the earth in that we are mostly made of water. We can go without food for weeks, but the absence of water causes certain death in just a few days.
Q: Why is this important to consider when it comes to God's truth?
A: God's Word is essential.
Look up this verse: John, Chapter 4, Verse 10
H2O = POWERFUL
Water can change an entire landscape over time or quite suddenly. Did anyone ever tell you how canyons are formed? These elaborately formed structures and crevices of rock are the result of years of persistent paths of water. We've also seen water and wind team up and make quick work of an area and marveled at the power harnessed from waterfalls.
Q: Why is this important when it comes to God's truth?
A: God's Word is powerful.
Look up this verse: Hebrews, Chapter 4, Verse 12
H2O = CLEANSING
When we are dirty, we turn to water to help get us clean. No one jumps in the mud to get clean! The wetness of the water penetrates the dirt and with a little agitation and elbow grease on our part, we get clean.
Notice that we have to get involved to get clean. Water does not jump on us and wash us itself. We have to step into it and submerge ourselves or let it rain on us to get its benefits. We must splash it on. We must engage it.
Q: Why is this important when it comes to God's truth?
A: God's Word is cleansing.
Look up this verse: John, Chapter 15, Verse 3
H2O = REFRESHING
On a hot day, we crave water. During and after great physical exertion, we want water. We may not drink it, but our bodies desire it and once we have it, we are renewed and re-energized. Some of the best times in our lives are related to water. Those who love to swim, surf or fish can certainly attest to that!
Q: Why is this important when it comes to God's truth?
A: God's Word is refreshing.
Look up this verse: Psalms, Chapter 51, Verse 10
H2O = UNIQUE
Water is an element. It has an exact composition. You shack two hydrogen atoms up with one oxygen atom and what do you have? Water. That relationship of atoms is the only way you get water. There are no alternate formulas.
Q: Why is this important when it comes to God's truth?
A: God's Word is unique.
Look up this verse: Isaiah, Chapter 44, Verse 6
H2O = ETERNAL
Water never ceases to exist and expresses itself in several forms: liquid, gas and solid. There has never been a time, since the creation of the earth that water was not present.
Q: Why is this important when it comes to God's truth?
A: God's Word is eternal.
Look up this verse: Matthew, Chapter 5, Verse 18
H2O = TRANSPARENT
Water is clear, therefore you can see through it. Sure, it may get dirty or cloudy, but in its pure form it is clear.
Q: Why is this important when it comes to God's truth?
A: God's Word is transparent.
Look up these verses: Romans, Chapter 16, Verses 25 and 26
The bottom line is that you need water, and you need God's Word. You need Jesus, the giver of living water and incarnation of God's Word. Regular water can only take you so far. It can give life, but not eternal life. Living water gives eternal life.
Did you know that, no matter what you believe you will live forever? We all have the breath of God in us which means that, because of His eternal nature, we can't cease to exist. We just exist in another form, in another place.
Jesus Christ came to this earth to be born, live, die, and rise again from death to rescue to the world from sin and death (I Corinthians 15:3-5). He paid the sin debt in full so that we would have true life - a life that can only be found in Him. To make this personal, read this sentence and put your name in the blank: Jesus came to this earth to rescue _____________.
Won't you ask Him into your heart today? Not tomorrow. Today! If you want to, please say this prayer in all sincerity and He will save you right now and adopt you into His great family:
Dear Jesus, I am a sinner. Please forgive me of my sins. I believe that you were born, died and rose again on the third day morning. I believe that you are alive and are coming back for your church one day. I do not understand all of this, but I know I want you in my heart and in my life. Please come into my heart and be my Lord and Savior. Amen.
